Gold’s having a rough session. XAU/USD sits at $4,599.03, down $38.23, and the bid just keeps getting tested. We opened at $4,637.26, printed a high of $4,661.39 early in London, and then the offers showed up. Sellers have been leaning on this thing all afternoon, and the low at $4,580.01 is looking like the line in the sand. If that breaks, the next stop is a lot lower.

Gold Price Today Fades Early Rally, Sellers Defend $4,660 Zone

The overnight tape was actually constructive. Buyers pushed gold right up to $4,661.39 in the Asian session, and the momentum carried into the London open. But that’s where it died. The $4,660 area has been a magnet for offers for the past three sessions, and today was no different. Every time price ticks up there, algos step in and sell the rally. Classic supply zone behavior.

The fade has been orderly, though. No panic. Volume is decent, but we’re not seeing the kind of aggressive liquidation that usually precedes a real breakdown. It feels more like position squaring ahead of tomorrow’s US GDP revision. Nobody wants to carry size into that print.

I’d argue the intraday structure is still bearish until proven otherwise. Lower highs, lower lows since the London session began. The buyers that were so aggressive at $4,580 earlier are going to get tested again before the close.

Gold’s Morning Push to $4,661 Fails at Prior Swing High

The high today at $4,661.39 was a retest of the August 24 swing high. Failed retests are a classic short entry for the algo crowd, and they took it. Price has shed over $60 from that peak in about five hours. That’s not a crash, but it’s a clear rejection.

Keep an eye on the hourly close. If we settle below $4,600, the path of least resistance tilts lower into the close.

Gold Price Today Key Levels: $4,580 Bid, $4,661 Ceiling

The range is $81.38, and it’s all happening between two levels that matter. Support at $4,580.01 has held twice today. Resistance at $4,661.39 has held three times this week. Until one of these gives, it’s a chop fest.

Support at $4,580 and $4,560 on the Radar

The first bid is $4,580.01. It’s held, but it’s getting chewed on. Below that, $4,560.80 is the bigger structural level. That’s where the August 20 breakout originated, and a move back there would likely attract real physical buying. Stops are clustered below $4,580, so a break could trigger a quick flush to $4,560 before anyone can react.

Resistance at $4,661 and $4,692 Caps the Upside

Offers are stacked at $4,661.39, and there’s a secondary wall at $4,692.48. That second level is the August 19 high, and it’s going to take a serious macro catalyst to clear it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see sellers defend $4,661 again tomorrow if we get a bounce. The liquidity above those levels is thin, but the algos will still respect the round numbers.

Gold Price Today Pressured by Firm Dollar, Quiet Macro Calendar

The dollar index is up 0.3% today, and that’s the main drag. Gold and the dollar are still inversely correlated in this regime, and a firmer greenback makes the metal less attractive for foreign buyers. There’s no fresh geopolitical headline driving safe-haven flows, so the tape is left to the FX cross currents.

Rates are also doing gold no favors. The 10-year yield is hovering near 4.2%, and real yields are creeping higher. That’s a headwind for a non-yielding asset, plain and simple. The market has fully priced out any near-term Fed cut, and the repricing is hitting the metal.

I keep an eye on the physical market in Asia, and the premiums there are still elevated. That’s the bull case. But it’s not enough to offset the macro pressure right now. We’re in a consolidation phase, and consolidation means the big money is waiting for a trigger.

Gold Price Today Verdict: Sellers in Control Below $4,600

My read is simple. Gold is stuck in a $81 range, and the sellers have the momentum into the close. The $4,580 support is the key. If it breaks, we’re looking at a quick move to $4,560.80, and I’d expect that level to hold on the first test.

For the bulls, they need to reclaim $4,620 and then challenge $4,661 again. Until they do, every rally is a selling opportunity. I’m not calling for a crash. This is a market that’s digesting a massive run, and digestion takes time. Patience is the play.

Tomorrow’s GDP revision is the wildcard. A hot number kills the Fed cut hopes further, and gold likely drops. A miss, and we could see a short squeeze back to $4,661. I’m positioned for the downside but ready to flip if that support fails to hold. That’s the game.
